MAN CITY 6 – 3 Arsenal – MY THOUGHTS

15 Dec

Wow. Wow. And wow again. And maybe another three times.

It is simply breathtaking. The frenetic attacking football. The collective intensity. The ability to produce performances like this one under such pressure. The creation of chances. The thirst for goals.

Six of them consigned Arsenal to a thumping on Saturday and it could have been many more. That we are defensively susceptible is understandably overlooked when our brilliance going forward is in evidence, as it was at the weekend. It doesn’t matter if our opponents score three when we score six. We’ll simply pour forward and pour forward again until we score more than them. It’s thrilling, pulsating and, frankly, silly to watch. We were treated to a spectacle of pure City genius.

Of those who featured against Arsenal, cases could be made for a number of star performers. Pablo Zabaleta was his indefatigable, warrior-like self, patrolling the right-hand side with character, quality and an attitude that drove us forward. Vincent Kompany was a rock at the back, dominant, authoritative and controlling. Samir Nasri, determined to make an impression against his former club, exemplified the creativity and intent that we now ooze. David Silva was a magician as he organised the massacre, conducting our play with elegance and vision. And that’s without mentioning the deadly forward pairing of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo.

Yet for all the brilliance of those mentioned above, the standout display came from one of our more unheralded figures. Defensively, in attack and everything in between, Fernandinho has everything. He’s sharp to the tackle, decisive in the challenge, efficient and technically superb in possession. He surges forward with balance and poise, with energy and dynamism and with a purpose we lacked last season. Two sumptuous goals were added to his stellar performance, one a gorgeous curled finish after his anticipation and speed had led him to intercept the ball in midfield, the other a deft chip following pretty footwork in the box. It was the near-perfect, complete showing. What a signing he has turned out to be.

Arsenal were the latest to be brushed aside with our sweeping intensity. Having scored four against Manchester United and six at home to Tottenham, this topped the lot. The visitors arrived, top of the table and full of hope, but they were unable to live with our speed, movement and ruthlessness. This was a display that sent a message.

it’s true that city played incredibly in attack, but to say arsenal couldn’t live with it is false. we were incorrectly judged offside twice and denied a penalty so the score at the end should have been 6-6. you can’t deny that the officials played a part in mcfc’s victory. though since we defended so poorly I suppose the best wake up call was defeat.

Some arsenal fan said that on talksport and was laughed at by the pundits, enough said

That the pundits laughed is irrelevant (especially TalkShite); the fact remains that there were significant incorrect decisions by the officials which COULD have had a direct bearing on game’s outcome.

You could point to any decision being different in any game and say that could have changed the outcome, even a free kick on the half way line. When 1 team dominates as city did against Arsenal and win by 3 clear goals, to suggest that it could have been a draw is nothing short of laughable, whether youre a pundit from ‘TalkShite’ or me laughing at these deluded comments

We have had our own share of games where decisions have gone against us. This is part of the game that every team experiences one way or the other. The truth of matter is City was a better team and deserved the win. You are just becoming a bad loser. Instead, try to be gracious by holding your heads-up for a great show Arsenal put up and stop acting like dumb rags

If you would’ve scored 3 more, we would’ve scored 6 more.

Gunner4life – It’s always funny when people say we should’ve had this and that, if arsenal should have scored 6 City should’ve scored 10… The best team won end of

Thanks Macca, for stating what should be bleedin’ obvious for the delusion gooner…..you saved me the trouble!

Arsenal played very poor at the back. But you can’t dismiss that the ref and Lino had a say in the final score. Giroud and bentner denied goals and four wrong offside calls, not to mention the ref allowing so many fouls to go unpunished from your players. Plus millers dive at the end. And it was a dive he goes down before he reaches the goal keeper. If arsenal buy a top striker and maybe a big powerful midfielder then anything can happen. Everybody who watched that game said the ref gave nothing to arsenal.

I have to agree with Gunner4Life.

2 x chalked off goals and numerous very questionable off-sides breaking up play and denying opportunities from the officials.

    Milners dive was also embarrassing.

It would appear City are buying more than just players. City…

VfaB, may I make a suggestion? To show a little kindness and sympathy to these delusional gooners that have popped in to congratulate us, why don’t you arrange for a special offer from one of your sponsors?

How about a free bag of sour grapes with every pair of rose coloured spectacles purchased?

I think Wenger is washing off on the Arsenal fans with this utter dross I am reading. I don’t even mind Arsenal fans and I hate Spurs too, but the ones commenting on here need to stop clutching at those straws and frankly talking out of their arses.

    • Siamack 16/12/2013 at 12:26 am #

If you we do not buy as you say, then we would end up developing trophy complex as you have been experiencing. I feel so sorry that you can neither win a trophy nor buy it. Very pathetic

Why can’t people just accept reality?
You got beat – accept it and stop trying to be mini-Wengers looking for excuses!

Hey I’m a gooner what a match goals galore disappointed to lose but considering I thought city and Chelsea were favourites to lift crown at start of season because of squad depth. I also thought after ten games we had chance to be top of league giving us a chance to win it. To be honest I thought the score could have been anything even 10-10 by end because lack of defending and players just willing to attack and fantastic creativity I got a bargain for my ticket best game of season and a well done to city for coming out on top. Now you just got to get the away bit right.

    • costarica 16/12/2013 at 12:25 am #

Fair play Richard, a feast of attacking football indeed. As a season ticket holder in the south stand I never thought for one minute you were out of it. At 4-2 you had to gamble and anything could have happened. Luckily for us we were breathtakingly effective going forward and a couple of close decisions went our way. Even so I still felt we edged it. If it’s not City that lift the title then I hope it goes to the Arsenal.

        Damn!
Will you guys stop being so reasonable, don’t you understand this is football we’re talking about :-)

It’s funny that when moaning about decisions Arse fans forget Walcott was offside for his second…

Also on Girouds disallowed goal everybody had already stopped in the stadium well before he even shot.

Wenger is a laughing stock after his comments and as are many Arsenal fans who have followed suit with the excuses that the ref was responsible for city winning 6-3…
