UEFA Euro 2016 Hots Up

26 Jun

As the round of sixteen continues today at the UEFA European Championships 2016, France gear up to face Republic of Ireland in a repeat of the 2009 World Cup play-off encounter that is infamously remembered to this day on account of Thierry Henry’s handball goal. The Irish will surely be out for revenge against the hosts, determined to seek justice for the unjust events of that day seven years ago.

France have performed well at this year’s tournament so far without hitting their peak form, and with the likes of Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet in their side, few would bet against them progressing to the next stage.

This has not been an easy tournament to predict. There have been surprises in certain games, several decisive last-minute winners that have changed the outcome of matches and for those looking to place a bet here, here is a guide to using bet365. The odds are tempting!

One of the favourites to lift the silverware at the end of the tournament also feature today, with Germany lining up against Slovakia. Following their World Cup victory in Brazil, many expected the Germans to tail off somewhat and lack the necessary hunger to win this trophy, but they still remain strong in attack and defence. They are expected to brush aside Slovakia convincingly.

The third and final fixture on Sunday sees Belgium play Hungary. Despite the loss of the injured Vincent Kompany, Belgium are still regarded as one of the teams to beat. They boast the attacking talents of Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard, two players who can create a moment of magic from nowhere, and Romelu Lukaku looks ready to burst into the spotlight. Their players are experienced and appear keen to stamp their authority and class on the international stage. They are firm favourites to advance to the next stage.

Tomorrow sees England take to the field against Iceland, and Spain will do battle against Italy in the tie of the round. With the games now coming thick and fast, and the quality increasing towards the back end of the competition, let’s just sit back and enjoy what remains of the tournament.
