5 Euro 2016 Strikers for Pep to Consider

29 May

We all know that City’s new manager will go shopping this summer but who will Pep bring in? Here are five strikers who could play a crucial role at the tournament this summer and for all your football tips today, check this out.

Robert Lewandowski

The Polish striker has no shortage of admirers after a stunning season with Bayern Munich and he could be ready to link up with former coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Bayern number nine has notched 47 goals in 63 appearances since joining the Bavarian club two years ago but rumours have surfaced linking the rangy Polish striker with a move away from the club.

City, meanwhile, will be rebuilding their squad dramatically over the summer and a world class striker looks to be on their shopping list to help lighten the load of Sergio Aguero.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan has been making strong noises about a move to the Premier League after running down his contract with the French champions. Manchester City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea all appear to be in the running for his signature and would be the perfect short-term fix.

The legendary 34 year-old striker has won titles with every club he has played for and City will be eager to wrestle back the Premier League crown from Leicester after their meek defence this season.

Ibrahimovic pretty much guarantees two goals for every three leagues games as his record of 302 goals in 484 domestic league matches suggests. Nevertheless, the only thing comparable with his scoring record would be the striker’s ego and personality.

And it remains to be seen if City and Guardiola, who already has a fractured relationship with Zlatan, would be willing to take a risk with the enigmatic Swede.

Harry Kane

Everyone’s eyes were on Harry Kane this campaign to see if he was a just a one season wonder or in fact the real deal. And he lived up to expectations, almost single-handedly propelling Spurs to the Premier League title with 25 goals in a spectacular season for club and country.

Kane is first choice for Spurs and England and City could be ready to test Daniel Levy’s resolve with a bid for their home grown hero.

The 22 year-old English striker is a reminder of the more traditional style centre forwards with his bustling style of play but Kane has much more to offer. He is deceptively quick and scores a range of goals, his hold up play is superb and he can play as the lone striker or in a partnership.

If Kane and England impress in France this summer then the Spurs striker will be in hot demand with City likely to be at the head of the list.

Antoine Griezmann

The Atletico number seven has had a spell binding season that could still end with a Champions League winner’s medal around his neck. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola will be acutely aware of the Frenchman’s talents as he scored the decisive goal that knocked Bayern Munich out of this year’s Champions League.

The 25 year-old is not an out and out striker but is comfortable anywhere across the front line and has improved with every passing season. Griezmann scored 32 goals in 53 games in all competitions for Atletico this season – his best return yet – making him the kind of progressive player that City will be looking to sign this summer.

Romelu Lukaku

The former Chelsea frontman has rebuilt his reputation on Merseyside by weighing in with 61 goals in 127 appearances for Everton after drawing a blank in West London. But the 23 year-old striker looks set to leave the club after they endured a frustrating season flirting with mid-table obscurity for the most part.

Lukaku, however, is one of the few players to emerge with any credit in a season when their manager, Roberto Martinez, was sacked.

The bulky 6ft 3 Belgian could be a shock target for Manchester City who are looking to add more firepower to their ranks. Lukaku has over five years Premier League experience and is finally developing into the striker most people thought he would become.

An impressive tournament in France this summer will enhance his chances of a big money move in the close season.
