MAN CITY 2 – 0 Leicester – PLAYER RATINGS

4 Mar

Hart - Out quickly in the first half when Leicester looked like breaking through, but despite their occasional moment of attacking promise, he had very little to do - 6

Sagna - As seems to be the norm for Sagna, he was defensively fine without contributing a great deal going forward. His relationship with Navas still has plenty of flaws, with the pair of them not quite having worked out when one should go and one should maintain his position - 6

Demichelis - A couple of typically well-timed covering challenges in the first half. Saw the game through without too many problems at all - 6

Mangala - The odd shaky moment, one especially standing out after the break when a sloppy pass saw two Leicester attackers bearing down on him, but generally fine - 6

Kolarov - His width was utilised to decent effect throughout the game, showing his customary willingness to fire crosses into the box. Found himself in promising positions, but didn’t always quite deliver as he should have done - 6

Fernando - Dawdled in possession on the odd occasion, but mostly just tidied up loose balls in midfield and gave it to teammates. In matches like this, that’s exactly what he’s there to do - 6

Y. Touré - Improved as the game wore on. Took too many touches before the interval and that contributed to our desperately slow tempo, but then stepped it up a level or two and started to control proceedings - 6

Navas - In the first half, he could have stayed wider to stretch the game, rather than drifting infield into an already congested area. Noticeable, then, how much more of a threat he became when he did stick to the touchline. Perfect cross for Milner’s goal - 7

Silva - Started sloppily by his high standards, but then dictated play after the half hour mark. Made the breakthrough, albeit a touch fortuitously, and then teased Leicester’s backline with his movement and weight of pass - 7

Bony - A promising full debut, even if he didn’t hit the heights of which we know he is capable. Some of his hold up play, when he operates with his back to goal and bullies defenders, was superb and as he features more alongside Aguero, their partnership will only improve - 6

Aguero - There were times when he threatened to burst into life as he picked the ball up deep and ran at pace towards goal. Couldn’t quite find that half a yard of space, though, that he thrives on in the final third - 6

Subs

Milner - Secured the points to further underline his value to the squad - 6

Lampard - Slotted in comfortably to the middle - 6

Dzeko - Little time to make an impression - No time to mark

I’m sorry but bony isnt deserving of a 6, more like a 4.
All he seems capable of doing is holding the ball up, that’s it! he can’t pass, and his finishing was awful too(I’m certain even dzeko would have come away with a goal or two given the chances he got) he Gets in the way of aguero, and makes aguero drop really deep to try and provide, where he is much less effective.

Over the top assessment based on one start and 2 sub appearances. ‘He cant do this does this wrong and causes Aguero to do this that and the other….’ I’m sorry has Bony been at the club all season and I’ve not realised? I’m from this weird place where I believe you give players a chance but I’m starting to think I’m a bit unique like that.

Personally, I think Bony looks like he has a good touch and as pointed out he is clearly strong and is built to be able to hold the ball up So far he has got in some good positions and hopefully once he gets his first goal maybe that will bring him confidence in front of goal in a blue shirt.

Fair play to the boss, its well overdue v.k being dropped – he showed balls there, maybe a bit late in the day?? Bony will be fine – I expect him to score lots of goals as long as he doesn’t panic about it – he’s a very good striker.

Would it be a good idea to move Kompany into a defensive midfield position allowing him to move quickly in front of the back four. Any rash tackles would not open the back line up. His superior ball carrying and passing abilities would make him a improved version of de Jong. Add to that his captains role as leader and motivator I believe it could give a boost to the whole teams energy.
