MAN CITY v Sunderland – The PREVIEW: City’s Probable Team

31 Dec

Vincent Kompany is still sidelined with injury, so the only selection dilemma for Manuel Pellegrini at the back is whether to opt for Gael Clichy or Aleks Kolarov on the left of defence.

Jesus Navas has been a striking form recently and he is a tempting 10/1 to score the opening goal against Sunderland.

Yaya Touré should return after missing the deflating draw with Burnley, whilst James Milner could be the one to miss out if Stevan Jovetic is deemed fit enough to start. Frank Lampard hasn’t seen too much action recently and so he, too, is vying for a place in the side.

Here is the side Pellegrini could select:

Manchester City 4-2-3-1 football formation

Referee: Chris Foy.

Prediction: MAN CITY 3 – 1 Sunderland – The visitors have posed a couple of problems in recent years for City, but with their confidence low and with that of the Blues still flying high after an excellent recent run of form, the outcome shouldn’t be a surprise. The draw with Burnley ought to warn the players against complacency, so I’ll back David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Touré to get on the scoresheet, with Steven Fletcher providing a consolation.

It’s about time Martin Demichelis or Eliaquim Mangala contributed some goals. They are both 26/1 to score the first on New Year’s Day!

Think I’d go for Clichy instead of Kolarov mate, otherwise yes.

Back you up on that mark. Would consider Angelino and another two academy players for the FA cup but unfortunately MP hasn’t got the guts to give these young upcoming players the chance.

In fairness he gave Pozo a fair crack at it and was fairly underwhelming. MP has a quota of trophies to win and is judged accordingly. FA cup is a great opportunity to do this and he is yet to win it. Would be so easy to slip up to Sheffield, hardly a non league side. Am guessing he will want to avoid this.

Kolarov has gone on record to say that you need to be playing regular football to find your match rythym, I think that’s a fair point in fairness to him, Clichy has been excellent this season – we all know that jovetic has talent etc etc & want him to do well but will he ever be fit? Is he Another rodwell? Thrilled to hear that Frankie l is with us till the end of the season – top dog, its a real shame that things have gone so soar for natasitc. It looks like he’s as good as gone unfortunately. He’s a good lad. Need to get the show back on the road against Sunderland who are the most peculiar team ever.
