Manchester United 0 – 3 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS

26 Mar

Hart - One important reflex stop to deny Welbeck in the second half and his punching under pressure was generally excellent, but such was the home side’s lack of threat, he was able to stand back and watch as we sauntered to the three points - 7

Zabaleta - Assaulted by Fellaini and his elbow, but it’ll take more than that to reduce Zabaleta’s effectiveness. Powerful in defence, limiting United’s endeavours from their left, and he willingly supported Navas down the right - 8

Kompany - An early booking meant he had to tread carefully for much of the game, and there were times when he subsequently seemed uncertain once dragged into a wider channel, but when our rivals tried to attack through the middle, he was imperious - 7

Demichelis - Yet again, an impressive, organised and cultured defensive showing. There were a couple of misplaced passes in the second half upon which his critics will no doubt pounce, but his positioning was solid and he formed a secure barrier alongside our captain - 7

Clichy – The myth seems to be that he has had a poor season. In reality, he was hesitant for the opening month of the campaign but has been much improved since then and this was another excellent performance. Bundles of energy, sharp and eager to any loose ball and dynamic when offering an outlet on the left - 8

Y. Touré - Even before his emphatic, thumping late goal which sealed a delightful victory, this was a powerful, dominant showing. Shrugged off the likes of Carrick and Fellaini with ease, combined well with Fernandinho and added another component to our attacks - 8

Fernandinho - It’s likely he’ll never receive the attention and praise Yaya does, but he’s an equally vital ingredient to the side. Provides an assurance in the middle, has the energy to burst forward and then track back and he has a composed elegance on the ball, as highlighted by his glorious pass to Nasri in the build-up to the first goal - 8

Navas - His direct approach and propensity to stay out wide caused Evra a mountain of problems. Helped to stretch our attacking play, always available to receive the ball and delivered a couple of teasing crosses - 7

Nasri - As he has done throughout the season, allied his creative guile to a battling spirit and team ethic. Cute in possession without ever playing that killer pass, he was lively and his movement all over the final third aided our control of the game - 7

Silva - What a player. There aren’t many superlatives remaining to describe him and his consistent genius, but suffice to say, he dictated the game, teasing and tormenting United’s backline with his canny movement and pinpoint touch. Drifted everywhere to create space for himself and was the heartbeat of our endeavours - 9

Džeko - When he’s in this mood, it only serves to frustrate that we so frequently have to watch the lethargic and disinterested version. Pellegrini alluded to it after the game that Dzeko now works harder for the side, contributing to our overall play rather than looking sullen and isolated. His second goal, especially, was superbly taken - 8

Subs

Garcia – Didn’t have any real impact - 6

Milner - Created Yaya’s goal with some clever movement, a decent touch and a neat pass - 6

Negredo – No opportunities to bounce back into goalscoring form - No time to mark

Credit when credit is due. Martin D. had a very solid game and Edin Dzeko worked his socks off. He was everyone and was good to see how far he comes back to help defending
