MAN CITY 5 – 0 Wigan – PLAYER RATINGS

25 Sep

Pantilimon - Could have been sat on the bench, such was his limited involvement. Showed a safe pair of hands on the rare occasions he was called into action - 6

Richards - Physically imposing, he used his pace and power to good effect when bursting forward. Created the second goal – Jovetic’s first – with a surge into the final third and then a penetrative, accurate cross - 7

Boyata - A feature of his game was how positive he looked to be when in possession. Barely tested defensively - 6

Lescott - Like his partner at the heart of defence, he was a spectator for most of the game but was solid when needed - 6

Clichy - A slight, but welcome, surprise that he was fit enough be named in the starting line-up and he was his usual all-action self, full of endeavour and pressing - 6

Garcia - Wigan’s failure to win, and then keep hold of, the ball meant that Garcia was able to cruise through the match without problems. Never needed to exert himself but still takes too long on the ball when we want to move it quickly - 6

Fernandinho - A delightful and delicate chipped pass to create Dzeko’s goal which showed another, more attacking side to his game than we’ve seen so far - 7

Milner - It’s nothing new to praise his immense workrate but it really is noticeable how he continues to push and press late on when others have eased off. Showed a good turn of pace on occasions and delivered some quality into the box - 8

Lopes - His full debut and looked more than at home alongside his experienced teammates. Sparky, feisty and with plenty of ability, he acquitted himself well and was unlucky not to score when his attempt from Milner’s cross struck the bar - 7

Jovetic - A hugely impressive display, one that offered a tantalising glimpse into his potential. Constantly involved in play, he dropped deep to receive the ball, moved intelligently with it and then showed great desire to arrive in the box. Deserved his goals and the man of the match award - 8.5

Džeko - Some good moments and some ordinary ones. Took his goal well, a neat finish to poke the ball home - 6

Subs

Y. Touré - Another sumptuous free-kick, which now makes it three almost identical ones so far this season. Imposed himself on proceedings against the limited opposition - 7

Navas - His first goal for the club should soothe any remaining nerves - 7

Negredo - A gentle cameo after his magnificent showing at the weekend - No time to mark
