Man City 3 – 1 QPR – PLAYER RATINGS

3 Sep

Hart - Unfortunate for the goal, where Johnson’s shot took a deflection and Hart had to change his position at the last minute. Did well to get a hand to it but was helpless as Zamora followed up. Punching was good and commanded his area, save for one uncertain moment from a free-kick - 6.5

Zabaleta - Another consistent performance, adding width out on the right and almost scoring with a delightful left-footed curler whilst sadly struck the crossbar. Was solid defensively though now faces a challenge from Maicon to retain his place in the side in Mancini continues with four at the back - 7

Kompany - Seemed sharper and more decisive than he had been up until Saturday. One moment of confusion when he was robbed of possession in a dangerous area but signs that he is returning to his authoritative best - 6.5

Lescott – Read the game well and limited the threat from Johnson and Zamora. Moved the ball on quickly and although QPR threatened briefly in the second half, he didn’t seem too ruffled - 6.5

Kolarov - Completely switched off for the goal. Was ball-watching instead of tracking his man so whereas Zamora anticipated what was going on, Kolarov was rooted to the spot and cost us a goal. As usual, bombed forward at every opportunity and produced one delightful crossfield pass to Silva but it’s the defensive lapses which mark him out as a liability - 5.5

Rodwell - A hugely impressive showing from Rodwell as he looked assured in the centre of midfield, breaking up play well, pressing high up the pitch and also moving forward in possession on occasions. Unfairly booked but this was a promising display as he continues to settle in - 8

Y. Touré - Controlled the game in the first half, especially with his passing which was crisper and quicker than at Anfield last week. Drifted a little in the second period when he seemed to tire early and he failed to track his man at times which could have cost us - 7.5

Nasri - After a slip blip against Liverpool, this was Nasri back to the form his displayed in the opening fixture with Southampton. Worked tirelessly, not just tracking back but also with his movement to create space for himself and others, and looked inventive in possession - 7.5

Silva - Back to somewhere near his delightful best. Was rested last week and seemed to benefit from that break as he looked bright throughout, producing some delicate touches and lovely footwork. Promising signs - 7.5

Tévez - Offered a genuine goal threat for 90 minutes and could have scored a couple more had his shooting boots been on. Never stopped running and closing defenders down and was busy in possession, taking on the opposition and linking well with those around him - 8

Džeko - Some of his hold-up play was excellent although he did slow the tempo down on occasions as we looked to break. Scored a vital header, something he has proved adept at doing recently, but still lacks consistency - 7

Subs

K. Touré – Replaced the injured Zabaleta but looked all over the place. Not a natural right-back and he struggled - 5

Milner – A couple of bursts down the right but couldn’t find the final ball- No time to mark

Razak - Made one timely interception - No time to mark

5.5 is a huge compliment to ,Joe’ avatar, Kolarov. Not only he was ball-watching for QPR first goal, as you put it perfectly, he was dumb and lucky not to be sent-off for his aerial-butt flying kicks while on a yellow card.

He also misplaced a perfect pass to Dezko to kill the game when the perfect opportunity presented itself. I am not sure what the …. Mancini sees in Kolarov. He is an absolute liability.

City should cut its losses and let him go during this coming January window unless he steps up to the plate.
