Players That Could Be Leaving City This Summer

This is a guest post from Linus.

Pep Guardiola promised that this summer would be a huge one in terms of revamping the squad, and with the departure of Vincent Kompany already announced and David Silva recent revealing that he will be leaving the club next summer; there will be a massive push towards bringing in new players over the coming months.

The chances of winning the Premier League again next season will be increased should they strengthen the squad further. With that being said, bookmakers currently make the Citizens the outright favourites to reclaim the title again next season. Punters should take full advantage of a sport bonus code to enhance their returns when betting on City winning a third consecutive title.

However, the club will still need to let go of players that have been hogging first team places without justifying their wages for the most part.

Leroy Sane

The future of Leroy Sane also raises concerning questions, as Bayern Munich are pursuing the German as they look to strengthen their wing positions following the departures of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. The departure of Sane would be a hammer blow for the club, with the 23-year-old a firm favourite with fans and a vital part of the City squad.

Should he depart the club, then the Citizens will have to move for a high-calibre replacement as last summer’s move for Riyad Mahrez doesn’t seem to fill the void that will be left by Sane. However, the club must do everything they can to retain the German’s services.

Danilo

The former Real Madrid man could be sold this summer if City can bring in Joao Cancelo. The full-back was one of the first signings made by Guardiola and has been a fine stand-in option for Kyle Walker when he has been injured. However, if the club are to reach the next level and get European success, then the options in this area must be improved, and that is something that Cancelo will undoubtedly do.

The Juventus full-back could push Walker for the starting spot in a way that Danilo hasn’t been able to do since the England internationals move to the Etihad. Walker himself went through a spell of bad form last season, and that posed problems for Guardiola as the style of play that the club play doesn’t match the skill set that Danilo has. Cancelo is very much the player in the mould that would excel in the City wing-back position.

Eliaquim Mangala

The French central defender has endured a difficult time since his £32 million move from Porto in 2014. After a two year spell that was full of defensive mishaps he was finally loaned out to Valencia for the 2016-17 season; once again he struggled to settle. He was given another chance in the back end of last season as he was loaned to Everton on January deadline day. However, a knee injury against Crystal Palace on his debut forced him off and put an end to his season.

There is no doubting that he has quality, but luck and performances haven’t been up to the standard that is required at the Etihad. City will likely have to take a loss on the fee they paid to get rid of him, but it would be a case of needs must if the club is to bring in another central defender.
