Manchester City Still the Team to Beat

This is a guest post from Vikki Steel.

Many people had their doubts about Pep Guardiola being successful in England but just after two seasons, all this was squashed. Manchester City had a record-breaking season that even the best Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United could only dream of. They brushed off almost all teams on their march to the title and sealed their fate in history books.

However, many teams fail to replicate their achievements in most cases but this City side is clearly still on the path that it was last season. They are still a top side and to write them off would be laughable. The only thing that seems to have changed up to now is the competition. Liverpool and Chelsea have turned out to be the teams to watch this season who could at least try and stop Man City. Do you think City will retain their title? The Citizens have had a fair share of injuries at the start of this season but that has not hindered them. With such stability it’s really hard to dethrone them and this season will be full of excitement as we try and see what they have in store for us.

City have found themselves with one of the best and clearly an unsung hero in Bernado Silva. Yes there are countless World class players at City in the names of David Silva, Sergio Aguero or Kevin de Bruyne. However, the emergence of Bernado Silva has proved to be pivotal this season as well as last season where the Portuguese was clearly outstanding but highly unnoticeable.

He is clearly the most consistent player in this Guardiola led star studded team. He deserves praise for his outstanding rise at the Etihad. In the entire Calendar year, Bernado has been a mile ahead of the rest, and so far has been City’s best player. Yes, his high moments may not be up there with the likes of Aguero or Kevin de Bruyne, but not once has he placed a foot wrong since the year started.

Most players are judged by the number of goals or assists that they have provided. However, that’s not the case with Bernado. His stats may not match with elite players across Europe but his impact on the field is just as good compared to the likes of Salah or Hazard.

He isn’t just a player who hogs the limelight and open to media attention. First of all, he is a model professional who is at the forefront and a player who has not allowed a few spells out of the team to come between his commitment to this City side. He is always reliable when called upon by Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie had made strong remarks about the Citizens saying that Manchester City have set a fresh benchmark which every team in England should try and emulate. The Liverpool icon claims that the Pep led side has completely taken the crown off Manchester United as the top team in the Premier League. He further says that this can simply be seen by the record-breaking season that they had.
